This week seems to have been furniture restoration week with replacement knobs being turned and some more in depth restoration work going on. We got some photos of wildlife, soil chromatography (you can look that up!!), printing, woodturning and we even got an Orchid. Well done folks, another busy week.
Andrew Hall sent in some photos from a run out with Bob - who had a close encounter of the furry kind while on his normal route. The electric bike is working out just fine too !!
Burnsy has the new printer...more printing fun to follow !! This weekend was Spring Fling so plenty of studio and workshops were visited including a knife maker and a photography venue with some interesting prints based on Soil Chromatography but using plant materials. A camper van with an interesting picture on the side was also spotted...
Dave Blanden sent over some photos of a job completed recently to restore the knobs on a chest of drawers, the turning hadn't been an issue but the colour matching had...in the interests of domestic harmony the repair had to be "invisible"!! Disaster averted...well done !!
Jim Briggs sent over some photos of a box he'd made - inspired by one shown by Andrew Hall but with some added pewter as a finishing touch. This piece provoked quite a lot of discussion...in particular the lid/finial....which apparently seems very like something which appears in certain adult catalogues....or so we were informed !! Well it appears this may be a dual purpose piece....now that's a mental image you could easily have lived without !!
Len Shield sent in some photos of a lovely piece, a suspended cone shaped box with lid and finial. It's made from a selection of materials and the box is attached to the base using some brass rod. Very nice indeed.
Patrick Lindsay sent over some photos of a furniture restoration job he had recently completed, oddly enough involving turning of knobs too. However, this job was a bit more involved as the piece of furniture had seen a lot more action and required more drastic repairs. The job has been completed and the chest will live to fight again !! We also got an Orchid to look at into the bargain !!!
Phil Irons is continuing to develop the printing side of things and has been making prints from a piece of historic timber - in this case the post which supported the village post box has been sliced and prepared. The prints even include the nail hole where the post box was attached. We also got a look at an advertising image which has been unearthed showing a model reclining on a Wadkin RS...several RS owners have been attempting to recreate the image with photos posted online....thankfully none of them have gone as far as wearing the dress....yet.
