Well, this week as a packed one! We had renovation work, Cyanotype printing, balls - Chinese, Cricket and just plain Large. We had bowls (segmented and natural edge), Urns, Hollow forms, a collection of Bert Marsh pieces on show and a whole lot more...all in all a varied evening. Read on for more:
Andrew Hall sent over a few photos of a renovation project completed this week on a bread board made some little while ago. The project also allowed Andrew to make use of his vacuum chuck...for a change not as a teaching system. We also got a couple of photos of Roman, just for Jim. Great stuff!!
Burnsy continued with the Cyanotype work, this week moving to production of some test images. Some photograms were produced and then a fewimages were prepared from mobile phone photographs to transparency and cyanotype printed. Coming along nicely!!
Gary Lowe sent in some photos of a very nice piece, a pierced sphere containing a pierced cube. In this case the turning may not be all from a single piece.
Jim Briggs sent over a photo of his competition entry from his local club competition. A copy of a piece by shown some weeks ago by Kevin Purdy this piece earned Jim a second place, well done!!
Len Shield sent over a photo of a bowl made from slices of plywood plus an unidentified timber rescued by a friend from their firewood pile. The plywood caused some issues when turning (carbide required) and with voids which needed to be filled afterwards but the finished piece was definitely worth it, well done !!
Mike Wilson sent over some photos of a couple of intereting items. First a vintage threshing machine that Mike is working on as part of a vintage machinery restoration group and second an antique cricket ball which has been made into a trophy. Very interesting stuff.
Patrick Lindsay has been out putting us all to shame again!! We got photos of the recent work in progress from Patricks garage workshop which is unheated...rather him than me. Patrick is continuing to make some very nice natural edge pieces...well done!!
Paul Howard sent over a some photos of a composite blank he received and turned a sphere out of it. The sphere was around 13 inches in diameter and was turned using his own design sphere jig. The sphere had a steel core and was to be covered in Lead for use as part of a roof finial...very nice indeed.
Phil Irons sent over some photos of a hollow form which had been sold recently but had come back into the workshop to have a lid fitted at the request of the new owner. A new lid was made and fitted to the piece and very nice it is too!!
Richard Dickson sent over some photos of one of the urns he had completed recently which has now been engraved with the persons details. Very nice work by Richard and some other bloke with a laser...no idea who that might be!!
Steve Gordon managed to prevent the dog from eating his homework this week (unlike some others!!) and we got photos of a couple of recent pieces. The first a Jarrah bowl, very much a homage the late Bert Marsh - prompting a whole load of stories and a showing of pieces Bert's work that are held in members collections - and very nice they are too. Second was a slightly odd request to produce a hair brush for a customer, or rather a replacement handle for a hairbrush...interesting job and a lovely result in burr Elm. Very nice indeed.
